fit out checklist

a step-by-step guide to a successful fit-out

At Borg Projects, we carry out fit-outs all day every day. The process is second-nature to us.

But we realise that it can be quite overwhelming when it’s not something you do all the time.

So, we’ve put together this fit-out checklist.

Armed with our checklist, you’ll know exactly what to expect when it comes to your fit-out project.

step 1: site assessment

If you’re looking for a space that meets your needs and design vision, your shop-fitter should be able to offer advice.

At Borg Projects, we can look at the space and tell you if your vision is feasible.

We can tell you if you can access the services you need.

We can even do a check measure of the space to make sure the size is going to work for you – remember, an empty space can look deceptively big!

Already have a space that you need to make work?

No problems.

Your shopfitter should be able to provide ideas, guidance, and advice on how to achieve the desired results.

Nicholas Borg, Director of Borg Projects, is incredibly adept at finding ways to make the seemingly impossible possible. He knows all the tricks of the trade. And he’ll tell you honestly if something just can’t be done.

step 2: equipment advice

Before you go and splash your cash on expensive equipment, talk to your shopfitter.

At Borg Projects we’re happy to offer advice about the size of the equipment that will work. We’ll help you to identify the best position for equipment layout. This will ensure that your space flows seamlessly.

We’ll even draw up some preliminary concept plans for you so that you get a clear idea what everything could look like.

step 3: time to design and draw

You have your space, and you know what needs to fit into it. It’s now time to get an architect and designer to draw up a full set of formal plans for you.

These will be needed to secure approval from Council and landlord for your fit-out project. It also helps us with elevations and clear guidance when we bring the project to life.

Borg Projects work with the best designers and architects in the business. We’ve built a solid base of tried and tested professionals that we’re more than happy to refer you to.

step 4: branding and designing your shopfront and signage

You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Your shopfront and signage should:

  • Attract they eye of your clientele
  • Make it easy for you to be found
  • Help you to stand out from the crowd
  • Be an accurate representation of your brand and brand values

We work with exceptionally talented branding specialists, designers and signage companies who can look after this whole process for you.

step 5: getting the necessary approvals

You’ve probably heard horror stories about trying to get DA approval. It can be enough to scare you off.

But you can relax.

At Borg Projects, we have built great relationships to help you.

You can rely on us to point you in the right direction for a good certifier, for the relevant paperwork to be completed before we can get onto the jobsite.

It can be a minefield without the benefit of our expertise and collaborations.

step 6: fit-out and project management

Once all the necessary approvals have been received, your fit out can begin.

This is where you’ll really see us shine.

We’ll oversee every aspect of your fit-out. We’ll make sure that everyone who works on your job is properly qualified, experienced, and supervised.

We’ll only use quality materials on your job, so you’re assured of an incredible result.

step 7: the occupation certificate

So, your fit-out is complete. There’s nothing more to be done. Right? Well not exactly. You have one more hurdle to jump before you can start operating your business in your sparkling new space.

You need to secure an occupation certificate.

If that sounds scary, don’t worry. Borg Projects will happily facilitate this step of the process with you.

step 8: you get the keys to the kingdom

Once all the above has been done, the keys are all yours.

This is perhaps our favourite part of the process. It’s so rewarding to see our clients excited by the prospect of being able to start building their empire. We hope you’ll celebrate with your drink of choice (bubbles are highly recommended).

step 9: ongoing support

We won’t hand your keys over and disappear. You can count on us to be there when you need us.

If there’s any minor snags that need taking care of, we’ll resolve them promptly.

Just give us a call with any concerns and requests and we’ll respond in a positive and cheerful manner.
